Chiropractic and childhood. Tips for moms (and fathers).
At what age should parents take their baby or child to a chiropractor?
Immediately. To be honest the controls should start even before birth. Indeed: before pregnancy.
Yes, because if the pregnant mother has regular checkups before she is pregnant so that her overall health conditions are good, that her habits are healthy and that she has a good functional posture, the child will have a greater chance of being born and grow healthy.
Then, soon after childbirth, it would be good to have the baby checked.
Many of the problems that the chiropractor discovers with children originate just during the birth process.
It has been shown that many problems with the child’s health during pregnancy and the first six years of childhood, if not of food origin, are almost exclusively due to mother’s tension and nervousness. It is important, therefore, that during pregnancy a woman is as serene as possible, because all her inner tensions are transmitted to the child.
Pregnancy is ultimately a natural phenomenon, even though the official medicine has almost transformed it into a disease: every month the woman is subjected to ultrasound to check that everything is fine, then at birth she is put in a room that resembles an operating room, and as soon as the baby is born he/she is removed immediately from the mother.
The problems that can arise during the birth process can be many.
If, for example, the child struggles to get out and suction cups or forceps are used then the skull bones can be deformed and create stress on the brain, with negative consequences for a normal development. Not so long ago, when the midwife saw that a newly born baby had a deformed head, she remodeled it a bit and this could really avoid many problems with the baby.
At present, with new technologies, children are no longer touched and this can lead to further problems. The only intervention that is unquestionable and useful to the baby’s health, is when put upside down: some skull deformations can be corrected. Even though the purpose is to make the baby cry immediately after birth sometimes involuntary skull corrections are made.
In the first years of life, the child must live in a climate of serenity around him; Therefore, at least in the presence of your children, try not to be anxious, not to get angry. In short, give much love to your children. This is what will make them grow well.
If the baby wakes up often, he cries, is nervous this means something is not going right. Chiropractic can be of assistance to these problems. For example, a colitis may depend primarily on milk, not from the maternal, but from the bovine origin.
Forty years ago it was argued that mother’s milk was not perfect because it lacked vitamin D. According to the official medicine nature had made a mistake again.
Today, the so-called scientific world admitted that not nature but they made another mistake again because breast milk prevents many problems for the baby. First, breast milk transmits the mother’s immune substances to the baby, so from an immunological point of view the baby will be stronger and have a greater resistance in live.
It has also been shown that the baby bottle will never replace the shape of a nipple, and it is during lactation that the tongue needs to be stimulated in a certain way. Many problems of normal tongue development and atypical swallowing are precisely due to a lack of breastfeeding.
Very important for the neurological organization of the baby is the stage of crawling. You must avoid forcing your baby to walk straight away. Crawling is a very important stage because the contralateral movements of the legs and arms lead to brain development so that in the adult life your speech, writing and movements are better coordinated. If the baby doesn’t crawl, is uncoordinated, crawls only with the arms or uses only one leg then see this is an alarm bell: something is wrong. This is a good indication that the baby needs to be checked by a chiropractor specialized in applied kinesiology, so that the problem can be understood and corrected.
When your baby starts to walk, do not worry if his feet seem slightly flat or his knees are bowed or knocked (so-called “X” legs) because this is part of a normal evolution. In the figure below, you can follow the normal physiological evolution of the lower limbs during the early years of life. In this sequence you can see the normal shape of legs, knees and feet, seen from babies to five or six years old. It is normal for a child up to five years to have slightly flat and pronated feet with bowed the knees.
This also means that it is just as normal at that age to have a hyperlordotic lumbar spine (it is known, in fact, that the tiny ones have a protruding abdomen which is physiological under the age of six). Only six years old, the child will need to have a fluid and coordinated movements: he will put forward his right leg together with his left arm and vice versa. If this does not happen it means there is a problem: once again a chiropractor specialized in applied kinesiology may be of help.
If you want to personally check that your kid has no important structural problems, look from behind:
– Whether the height of the ears, shoulders, and buttocks is the same, if the space between the body and the arms is the same on both sides, this means that all the muscles of the body are in harmony and that the body is balanced.
– The hands should be in a natural position: if they are rotated forward or backward, this may indicate an imbalance, e.g. at the thyroid gland.
The elbows, in a relaxed position, should be slightly bent, not straightened or overly bent. The shoulder blades must be at the same height and at the same distance from the median line.
– To check if the hips are aligned, place your hands on the highest point of the bone of both hips: they must be at the same height.
– The knees must be straight, not too arched or too lanky.
– The Achilles tendon must descend about straight from the leg without inclination to either the right or left.
Then do a frontal examination.
Look again if everything is in balance and look particularly at the mouth: have the child open the mouth slowly. The jaw must rotate straight downwards without lateral deviations.
In profile, you need to look for a straight line starting from the ankle at the malleolus up to the center of the knee and of the hip. It must then pass at the center of the elbow, the shoulder and ear. If one of these positions is too much forward or backward, it means something is not well balanced.
Other alarm bells for a parent can be found when the child begins to write. If he writes like in a mirror or writes from right to left, it means something neurologically is not working properly.
If the child is can’t concentrate, or if the concentration time is very limited, this may also be a negative sign. If it is too active, hyperactive, this is also an alarm bell but it is important to know that most attention deficit syndromes are due to bad eating habits leading to hyperactivity, such as excessive consumption of sweets, sugar, refined white flour, snacks and lack of fruits, vegetables, healthy oils.
Tip: Do not correct a child who writes with his left hand; It could have very serious neurological consequences. Research has shown that left-handed children who have been corrected may have symptoms of stuttering, concentration problems, nighttime enuresis, and so on.
